Tonight's Blood Moon Eclipse

Tonight at 11:30pm Pacific the skies will present a dramatic event - a Full Red Moon sailing overhead. It should be visible just about everywhere too. This is the first of four eclipses occurring over the next year - all in the signs of Libra and Aries. They are in accordance with the nodes of the Moon which are stimulating our relations with others and diminishing our need "to go it alone".

AND Mars will also be closest to the Earth tonight! In fact it should appear as a bright red star next to the Moon. This is the closest Mars has been to the Earth since January 2008 and will be at it's brightest. Personally, I'm a Scorpio and I dig the color red, so I'm looking forward to this tonight.

The Full Moon tonight occurs in the sign of Libra which symbolizes relationships and partnerships of all kinds - professional and personal. If there is some unresolved issue or tension that needs to be expressed, expect it to come up this week. It's a wonderful time to clear the air. But with Mars there, watch out for aggression and anger. The key to this Full Moon is DIPLOMACY and restoring BALANCE - key traits of the sign Libra. There's a feeling of fate and inspiration with relationships this month.

Unleash your assertive Martian drive on making your life better and helping others. Mars has strong convictions and wants things to happen NOW, while Libra inspires us to work together for the greater good of all.

And then there's the other thing - the Grand Cross on April 22 which really stirs the pot. The cross is formed by Pluto's opposition to Jupiter and Uranus's opposition to Mars. These are huge heavyweights in the sky which will ignite the events and timing in your life to enhance your evolution. You can come quietly or sit in resistance but change is happening either way. Best to embrace it! If you need a reading or healing I'm here :)

Pluto: Evolutionary change, catalyst in Capricorn: Hard work, ambition, (and the wealthy)
opposing...
Jupiter: Expansion, Philanthropy, Optimism in Cancer: Fertility, Nurturing, Home

Uranus: Sudden Change, Invention, eccentricity in Aries: Spontaneity, Drive, Egoism
opposing...
Mars: DRIVE, aggression, war, anger, courage in Libra: relationships, balance, harmony

...what a mess

It will be interesting how this effects each of us individually. Here's something I wrote about eclipses from 2011:

When the World falls under the influence of an eclipse, things are out of the ordinary. It's an uncommon time, and we have rare and insightful experiences. It's like walking around your darkened bedroom with a black light - things show up differently, and we see things in a way we don't normally see them. Some things are brighter and easier to see and some things fall into shadow.

Quite simply, I feel it is a time when we touch the foundations of why we are here on this planet. Each of us gains some new insight or information into the life we are currently leading. This information can come through anything - our family, friends, a situation at work, or a bolt of lightning straight from the heavens into our consciousness. When it's an eclipse, I always pay close attention to what happens that day, because there will be something synchronistic about it.

Mars bright in the sky tonight!

Mars will be in opposition to the Sun tonight making it shine brightly in the sky. Look for a huge reddish star rising after the Moon. You could almost call it a "Full Mars" instead of a "Full Moon" because it's kind of the same thing. When the Moon is full it's because it's directly opposite the Sun and is completely illuminated by the Sun - this will happen tonight with the planet Mars.

Astrologically we are waxing towards a Full Moon in Libra next week which will set off a huge Grand Cross in the sky. Try to wrap stuff up emotionally charged stuff THIS week if you can. Next week could be volatile.

From Astronomy.com

Tuesday, April 8
Mars lies opposite the Sun in our sky today and reaches its peak visibility for 2014. The Red Planet appears low in the east as darkness falls and grows more prominent as the evening wears on and it climbs higher. By 1 a.m. local daylight time, it stands halfway to the zenith in the southern sky. Mars lies among the background stars of central Virgo, 7° north-northwest of that constellation’s brightest star, 1st-magnitude Spica. The planet shines at magnitude –1.5, some 10 times brighter than the star. In fact, Mars hasn’t been this bright since December 2007. When viewed through a telescope, the planet’s ocher-colored disk spans 15" and shows significant detail. The most obvious feature should be the white north polar cap. Learn more about observing the Red Planet with "Explore Mars this month."

The Moon reaches apogee, the farthest point in its orbit around Earth, at 10:52 a.m. EDT. It then lies 251,344 miles (404,500 kilometers) from Earth’s center.

New Moon in Aries: Magic Maker

Be a magic maker. With the New Moon in Aries this morning, we have a strong chance for rebirth. To start over. It's time to shed anything that doesn't fit the vision you have for yourself and your life.

This new moon inspires one to action, courage, spontaneity and assertiveness. Time to advocate for yourself and let your actions speak for you.

Today sparks off April's wild astrological mix, so starting today wrap up loose ends and clarify your focus. We've had a square between Uranus (sudden change, extremes) and Pluto (catalyst and catharsis) for a couple years which has created much of the upheaval we've seen in the world. This square will be touched off this month like fireworks! There will be a Grand Cross formed in the sky by Uranus, Pluto, Mars (volatility) and Jupiter (expansion) in mid April and it's going to be a doozy. More to come on that later.

The wonderful thing about the New Moon in Aries today, is it touches on why you are here at this time on the planet. What is your reason for being? What work do you need to accomplish while you're here? What gifts have been bestowed upon you and what are you drawn too? I think these questions can be answered by looking at our basic nature, and then developing it. The ruler of Aries is Mars, and this fiery planet is currently in retrograde in the sign of Libra. This teaches us patience, and that we can't take action in a vacuum. We are on this planet with other people and have to consider others too. How does our individuality and path in life intersect with the people around us? Libra is the sign of partnership and reminds us we need partners to actuate our potential.

OK that enough philosophizing for one day, now let's go out and take ACTION!!

Big Planet Shuffle

The first week of March sees huge planetary shifts occurring in every corner of the sky.

The closest and most influential planets are changing motion or signs in these first seven days...

February 28: Mercury Direct in Aquarius (yay) Let those numerous, zany ideas take shape and fly.

March 1st: Mars Retrogrades in Libra until May 20th - Time to reassess your goals and plans for 2014. Make sure they are in line with your heart. Aim for balanced "win win" situations with the people involved. It's time to put some energy into the collective around you, rather than your own personal agenda. What's your intent? Be prepared for a bit of a slow down or delay in results. It's a good time to woodshed and hone your craft. And don't skimp on exercise routines or getting dolled up for social events. All of these things are important with Mars in Libra. Basically, turn yourself into Oscar Wilde for the next few months...

March 2: Saturn Retrogrades in Scorpio until July 20th - The planet of stability turns backwards and things may appear less stable than they are. Don't let your fears get the better of you. Focus on owning your stability from within and putting energy into creating your own security. Tie up loose ends.

March 5: Venus enters Aquarius. Over the last three months our relationships have either solidified or imploded under the weight of Capricorn's responsibility and commitment. Venus moving into Aquarius lightens the mood and inspires us to have some fun and eccentricity in our relationships and social circle.

March 6: Lilith moves into Leo until Dec. 3rd. Jupiter Direct in Cancer - With Mars in the sign of Art (Libra) it's a great time to do just that: your Art. Whatever that may be. Writing, painting, singing, cooking, playing music, interior decorating, gardening or sitting with friends. Lilith in Leo wants to stand out and be noticed, and Jupiter (Fortune) in the fertile sign of Cancer fills your mind with concepts and ideas. Let yourself loose and set your imagination free.

Our perspectives and priorities have completely shifted and we are now standing in a brand new ball park. There's a freshness and excitement in the air as we stand at the dawning of Spring.

December 2013 Horoscopes

December opens with today's uplifting New Moon in Sagittarius, the wild horse! A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are on the same side of the planet. Today through Wednesday is a time of new beginnings and to start new behaviors and projects. Sagittarius brings a drive towards independence, optimism and adventure over the next several days. Now is the time to think about goals for 2014, and to begin clearing and purifying your home to make way for the Year of the Horse in February. Next year will be fast paced, and you will want to be ready.

Most of the planets have been hovering in or near Scorpio since late October. November was definitely intense! For December, the next week or two is peaceful but we are hovering on the edge of a big shift. The fiery planet Mars (Drive) enters Libra (it's detriment) from December 7th, 2013 until July 25th, 2014, and Venus (Love) enters her retrograde in Capricorn (Reality) from December 21st to January 31st.  Two very forceful planets enter the arena of love in signs where they don't feel at home.

Mars in Libra is like a soldier in full armor trying to sip tea with elderly ladies in an etiquette class. He's gonna be ill-at-ease :) Our normal drives and ambitions will be tempered by the desire for balance with others. We need to respect other people and honor their needs. It's good for us but can feel limiting at times. One way to deal with this transit is chivalry. Most knights had a code of conduct they followed, some of it brutal of course, but I would focus on the gracious side.

Venus in Capricorn is almost the opposite - a romantic idealist throwing a tea party on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange. Ha! I'm having fun with these analogies :) Venus, with her charm and loving nature is going to feel ill-at-ease in the environment of practicality, ambition and harsh reality. UNLESS of course, we're talking about THIS Venus:

Just try to be more like her. Start planking.

Oh, and to make things slightly more complicated, both Venus and Mars are having retrograde cycles too! This means they will be turning backwards. Retrograde motion often brings out the truth in relationships, and can cause an onslaught of "re" words i.e. renegotiate, reassess, relearn, redo and return. Watch out for the ghosts of boyfriends and girlfriends past returning...

I'll keep you posted on all this, but basically we're going to be reviewing our relationships and agreements with people over the next few months. Focus on creating BALANCE and negotiating fair, mutual decisions.

Onto the horoscopes! I will look at the position of your ruler. Reading your sun sign is important, but please read the sign that relates to your Rising sign. If you don't know your rising sign (also called the ascendant), you can figure it out on the Free Horoscopes link at astro.com

There will be another year of clearing skeletons from your closet. In the long run he is creating deep opportunities for you to grow, mature and prosper.

Aquarius:  The Water Bearer
There’s been a huge positive focus on your career sector the past few weeks with the Scorpio Sun traveling through your 10th House. On top of that, Venus, the planet of beauty and attraction has begun her journey through the dark corners of your mind. She will be hanging out there and lighting the way until the first week of March. This is a fortunate transit as Venus can help you get out of your own way. Lots of good money aspects happening for the next year too.

Pisces:  The Fish
You are a happy fish these days. The planet of Luck, Jupiter, is still hanging out in your Romance and Creativity sector, giving you once in a lifetime opportunities to pursue your dreams. Meanwhile the Sun has been traveling through your House of Perspective the last few weeks, giving you revelations. With the Sun’s entrance into Sagittarius on Nov. 21st, the focus has shifted a positive spotlight to your Career.
