NY Times: "Finding Success, Well Past the Age of Wunderkind"

In the skies today, Saturn in Sagittarius is squaring Mercury in Pisces. This brings weight and seriousness to our thinking and ideas. Saturn relates to age, structure and time, and since I turned 50 years old in November, I've been contemplating this energy and looking at the directions I want to pursue as I get older. I found this article very inspiring!

“We absolutely have to revamp this idea of a linear pattern of accomplishment that ends when you’re 50 or 60,” said Karl A. Pillemer, a professor of gerontology at Cornell University, and author of, most recently, “30 Lessons for Loving.” “There are simply too many examples of people who bloom late, and it’s the most extraordinary time of their life.”

Mr. Pillemer, who has interviewed more than 1,500 people age 70 and older for the Legacy Project at Cornell, found that a large number of people said they had achieved a life dream or embarked on a worthwhile endeavor after age 65. “There was this feeling of somehow ‘getting it right’ at 50 or 60 or older,” he said, noting that this sentiment applies to creative efforts, relationships and work.

"Researchers distinguish between crystallized (general knowledge) and fluid (problem solving) intelligence. Crystallized intelligence tends to grow over a lifetime, whereas fluid intelligence usually declines after a person reaches the late 20s. That’s why deciding to become a mathematician or a chess master at age 50 usually does not work. “It is generally very difficult to get a late start in a field that requires lots of fluid intelligence from the get-go,” said Dean Keith Simonton, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis and author of “The Wiley Handbook of Genius.”

Wiccan Priestess Shares Tips For Urban Dwellers To Connect With Nature This Spring Equinox

Link:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/19/ostara-spring-equinox-celebrations_n_6897898.html

Great article! Here's some wonderful ways to spend tomorrow's Equinox:

"The spring equinox falls on Friday, March 20, in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the moment that the sun passes over the celestial equator. On this day, Wiccans and many other neopagans observe Ostara, a festival that celebrates the season's change from dark winter to brightening spring.
Wicca is a pagan religion that emphasizes the cycles of nature and spiritual connection to the earth. Ostara is one of 8 seasonal Wiccan holidays.
Faith tradition aside, though, there are ways all of us can connect more deeply with nature and reap the benefits of the new season, according to Wiccan priestess Selena Fox.
"Spring equinox is a time of new life, new growth, and renewal," Fox told The Huffington Post. "It is a wonderful time to get outdoors and commune with nature, watching migrating birds, the greening of the landscape and budding of trees."
Fox is the high priestess of Circle Sanctuary, a Wiccan church, resource center and nature preserve in southwestern Wisconsin. The preserve is situated amidst "rolling hills" with access to "forests, meadows, a remnant prairie, streams, springs, ancient sandstone rock outcroppings, nature trails, and an abundance of wild birds and other wildlife," according to its website.
Those who are city-bound and surrounded by concrete sidewalks and skyscrapers may be crying a bit on the inside after reading that. We feel your pain.
But Fox says there are actually many ways for urban-dwellers to connect with nature on Ostara. The priestess shared seven tips for celebrating the new season -- even without access to streams and meadows.

DECORATE

painted eggs

"Decorate your home with springtime imagery -- a vase of fresh flowers from the market, a bowl of wooden painted eggs or colored hard-boiled eggs, a wreath of silk flowers on your front door," Fox says.

MEDITATE

"Visit a botanical garden, garden center, flower shop or other place with flowers and meditatively delight in the blooms -- their colors, shapes and fragrances."

RENOVATE

open windows

"Do a bit of spring cleaning," Fox suggests. "Spend a few minutes airing out your home by opening windows, sweeping the kitchen or reorganizing a desk drawer."

INNOVATE

"Try something new. Add something to your daily routine. Make a new friend. Create or purchase something new and wear it."

INVIGORATE

green juice

Some of Fox's suggestions: "Create and drink a spring tonic. Take a walk in your neighborhood and look for signs of spring. Wear something green to connect you with the greening of the land."

COMMUNICATE

"Take spring-themed photographs and share on them social media along with springtime well wishes."

CELEBRATE

dinner flowers

"Host a 'welcome, spring' party," Fox says. "Have guests bring spring symbols to decorate the feasting table. Serve a salad with fresh-picked spring greens. Share observations of emerging spring with others."
Check out more of Fox's tips for spring rituals on the Circle Sanctuary's website."

Full Moon in Virgo

Today we have a Full Moon in Virgo at 10:05am Pacific. I like the Sabian symbol for the Sun today at 15 degrees Pisces:  “the need for rehearsing before any complex and inherently dangerous social ritual in which power is used or invoked”. YES.

From the Cosmic Intelligence Agency: "It speaks of the the deep seated struggle that occurs at the end of the great zodiac cycle in Pisces against the ghosts of the unfulfilled past, the unlived life and the karma that hasn’t been dealt with.  This is particularly potent as this Full Moon immediately precedes the final exact Uranus Pluto square, some 11 days later."

There's a lot of cardinal, fiery, initiating energy in the skies too. The planet Mars is sitting exactly on the South Node of the Moon this week - giving us the  energy and courage to really let go of the past. We are driven towards new beginnings, and with Saturn trining in Sagittarius, the changes we are making are solid.

March: The Month Ahead

By: JD “Khepri” Cogmon, Agent 64
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” — C.G. Jung
According to the Gregorian calendar, March is the month named after the Roman God of war named “Mars,” ruler of Aries and Scorpio in classical astrology. There are a variety of action oriented archetypes in astrology encompassing both male and female gods/goddesses from various cultures around the world, but the unifying theme is change through action and directed will.
In the month of March, we reach the end of the road of personal and collective growth represented by a two year “square dance” between Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries. If you have made an effort to germinate and conglomerate all of the seeds of wisdom into a beautiful garden of self-knowledge, the last exact square on March 15th, 2015 will serve as harvest time for all of your hard work. Within a week of the big event, The Sun will move from Pisces to Aries on a new moon/solar eclipse ingress that falls upon the equinox and jumpstarts a new astrological year of action and change.
The Struggle of Duality: Confrontation versus Escape
The push of Neptune, Chiron, and Mercury as they swim through the Pisces/Neptunian waters of imagination, magic(k) and escape, serve as a reminder that “small heroes master their enemies and big heroes master themselves.”—Rumi  As we slip from “Piscean” compassion and wisdom, into outspoken Aries and its provocative and adventurous nature for yet another choice,  the struggle between two opposing approaches in life helps us develop the insight to understand that we can approach our lives as sword wielding gladiators or as compassionate and patient “sages” or “crones.” Either choice we make will reinforce the idea that we will survive or thrive as long as we remember that all choices lead to growth and not all aggressive approaches empower you.

The High Definition FULL MOON IN Virgo 18:05:22 UT 14º Virgo 50’24”
The Full Moon in Virgo at the beginning of March will help us to reflect on the events of our journey and re-direct our experience(s) so that any pain is transmuted into gain.
This Virgo energy will help direct the fire trine energy between Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Leo, Mars, Venus and Uranus in Aries in a structured way that will set March 2015 apart from the last few years. Jupiter in Leo still remains retrograde, so be careful not to overcommit to projects or people. Be aware that Saturn stations retrograde within 48 hours of the big cardinal cross, so don’t feel put off or disparage challenges if your focus or aim gets a little shaky. Please continue to push forward even if all seems lost. Unexpected and “shocking” moments may be just little tests disguised as a detour(s).
The big moment takes place on March 17th at 2:53 am UT when Uranus hits the 15º 18’4″ Aries forming an exact square aspect to Pluto at 15º 18’4″ Capricorn. Mars starts banging on the proverbial gong a few days before our “cardinal chrysalis,” opens by forming a conjunction with Uranus in Aries just a few hours before forming a square with Pluto in Capricorn, giving you that feeling that guest have arrived to your party and you have not showered or made hors-d’oeuvres yet. So I ask that you consider the times in life when a challenging event arrived before you “felt” ready. Usually you look up and discover that it wasn’t half  as bad as you imagined it would be and it was over faster than you could have hoped for. So don’t focus on controlling all the details, just be ok with the cosmos co-creating the timeline with you. You may discover that some really good things are in store for you this year. Just check twice to make sure you have your clothes on just in case.
